This was a pivotal moment for GM, this was the first time the public would see a potential hint of what was to come for the next generation of their infotainment systems. Freeform displays, more displays in other functional areas of the interior, real time 3d models, enhanced safety systems, more personalized customization, deeper profile integration, integrated entertainment brands, electrification all on top of Cadillacs new design form language for the future of their portfolio.
This was a deep collaborative effort between GM in-vehicle UX, Engineering and VFX studio Territory. I led the infotainment design efforts collaborating with the interior design studio, design leadership, designs fab shop, engineering hardware to build the working vehicle components, engineering for the real displays and of course our UX team working with Territory on the UX, screen flows, interactions and what we wanted to convey for the future.
Once the project got rolling the momentum was so great that I saw an opportunity to go bigger with the concept. There were internal collaboration and communication issues at the time amidst trying to align many disparate teams working on a wide array of customer interface touch points from mobile to marketing to OnStar to news letters to the website back to the vehicle infotainment. I used this as an opportunity to paint a vision of harmonizing all efforts to create one singular design identity.
What if every customer touchpoint digitally had the same look and feel as if done by the same team? Creating a vision for the most cohesive automotive user experience ecosystem possible. With the Lyriq concept aesthetic leading the way we sought to create momentum for the company to strive towards.
Taking into account single account sign on, saved preferences and multiple customer brand interaction touch points; we set out to make the design language the same as much as we could.
